Awesome show, intimate performance
The Sword's performance exceeded my expectations and then some, I just want to say first off!
I was concerned when I saw the actual venue layout at the racetrack grounds that it would not be as "professional" as more "quality" presentations like Madison Square Garden. Nothing could be further from the truth! The sound quality was on par with any concert I'd seen in Chicago, New York, or L.A., maybe better, and every seat provided an excellent view. Just enough props were used to compliment the music, with no overuse.
The music... The Sword at their best! They did a different rendition of Shatter Me that, to my mind, was better than the studio/video version. By way of example, they included a couple of songs from their upcoming Artimice album they will be releasing in the fall, as well as some perennial favorites. Not the same rehash.
What made this show a cut above was not what went well, but what didn't and how they handled it. During one of their new songs from the Artimice album, the sound system got out of sync and they had to stop short. Most artists would have thrown a tantrum, or been thrown, and perhaps not have been honest with the audience. The Sword explained what happened and even explained "Plan B," bringing out their dog to the audience delight after the next song.
They took time to share about their experience battling addiction with Anorexia and depression, and how shining light on darkness can be transformative, and how that led to their song First Light.
All in all, it was an amazing concert, and for me, well worth the trip from Chicago to San Diego (I wish you were doing more U.S. tours in 2026).
